Follow the steps below to make the most of your new plan option

Important next steps:

1. If you were enrolled in a Medicare Supplement Plan in 2023 you may need to take action to disenroll to avoid paying for plans that do not coordinate coverage.

  • You will need to actively disenroll from your Medicare Supplement plan by contacting your current Insurance Company using the phone number on your ID card or most recent statement. Note: If you are enrolled in AARP Medicare Supplement insurance,the IBM Retiree Call Center can assist you with the disenrollment process.
  • The IBM-sponsored Group Medicare Advantage plan includes dental and vision coverage, so if the coverage meets your needs, you will no longer need to be enrolled in these supplement plans, too. These plans also require active disenrollment.
  • Note: If you have previously disenrolled from your Medicare Supplement Plan no additional action is required. If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan and/or Part D Plan in 2023, you will automatically be disenrolled from your individual plan.

2. Using your new UnitedHealthcare member ID card. Once you get your member ID card you can keep your red, white and blue Medicare card in a safe place, you will no longer need to show that at the doctor or hospital. If you are HRA subsidy eligible, the HRA Welcome Kit will be sent following your account set-up completion. The timing of the HRA Welcome Kit varies depending upon your HRA type.

In general, your account will be established within 3 business days of your eligibility for an HRA being passed from UnitedHealthcare to Optum Financial.

  • FHA participants your FHA/HRA balance will reflect approximately six weeks following your Medicare eligibility date. Prior to this, the system will reflect a zero balance.
  • The HRA Annual will have funding the week the HRA is established

3. Register for your secure online account.Your member website has been designed to help you do more, giving you 24/7 access to everything your plan has to offer.

  • If you have premium due, you will be billed monthly by UnitedHealthcare for your portion. Payments can be made on the UnitedHealthcare website with an HRA card, other funds, or by setting up recurring payments.
