Enrollment process

If you are already a member of the APWU Health Plan’s High Option, you can elect the Medicare Advantage enhanced level of benefits (UnitedHealthcare Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) plan), at any time by calling UnitedHealthcare at 1-855-383-8793 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. local time, 7 days a week. TTY users, call 711.

If the Open Season enrollment deadline has passed, you may not be able to enroll in the APWU Health Plan High Option a plan until the next enrollment period, unless you qualify for a Qualifying Life Event.

Who is eligible to enroll in the plan?

  • You may enroll in the Medicare Advantage enhanced benefits once enrolled in the APWU Health Plan High Option plan code with OPM

  • You are retired from a federal agency or the postal service
    • If you are a spouse/dependent, the federal or postal employee must be retired in order for you to be eligible for this plan

What if the enrollment deadline has passed?

If the Open Season enrollment deadline has passed, you may not be able to enroll in the APWU Health Plan High Option until the next enrollment period, unless you qualify for a Qualifying Life Event.

It's important to enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B when you first become eligible, during the Initial Enrollment Period. Medicare Part B requires a monthly premium payment for coverage, which is determined by when you enroll. In most cases, premium rates increase by 10 percent for each full 12-month period that you could have had Part B, but were not enrolled.
